Seminar: Risk assessment of emerging pollutants in the environment
23 November 2010, University of Johannesburg
The focus of the seminar is on aspects related to early detection and risk assessment of emerging pollutants in the environment. The audience that we are targeting includes industry, wastewater treatment companies, consulting engineering groups, municipalities, government departments, catchment management agencies, the scientific community and all those interested in toxicity assessment and environmental protection.
The organizers hope that this event will stimulate and strengthen communication and cooperation between delegates and rekindle the enthusiasm and interest in toxicity testing as wastewater management tool.

Workshop: 25 May 2010
'Algal growth inhibition test'
Department of Zoology, University of Johannesburg
25 May 2010, 09h30 to 15h00
First Announcement
The Aquatox Forum is hosting a one-day seminar on 25 May 2010. At present there are as many methods being used as laboratories conducting the algal growth inhibition test. The aim of the workshop will be to get the people doing these tests together and to discuss the pros and con's of these various methods. Secondly ISO has recently revised their method with some major changes in the way results are calculated. Other aspects that we would like to touch on are:
- discussion of a hazard classification system and the way forward
- a viable PTS scheme for this method
- to select/propose candidates to form an ISO workgroup on toxicity methods
